Learn to Play Day 2026

Visit us for a FREE music lesson!
We’re taking part in Learn to Play ‘26 which means you can visit us to enjoy a free taster music lesson on 10th October! Whether you are a budding or lapsed musician, we welcome everybody to come and make some music. Learning to play an instrument is fun, challenging and fantastic for your mental health and wellbeing. Come and discover the joy of music making with Nottingham Comhaltas.
We are offering free tin whistle and bodhran lessons (just drop in, no booking required, and instruments can be provided)

Following the taster lessons, we will be hosting a steady trad Irish session 3-30pm. This is for beginners/improvers who would like to improve their confidence in playing in an Irish session in a friendly environment (and at a steady pace!). We will be looking at a set of slides: Brosna Slide, O’Keefe’s Slide, Dennis Murphy’s Slide.
Paper copies of the music will also be available on the day.

Singing workshop with Marianne McAleer

Join us for an exciting day of singing workshops with Marianne McAleer. Learn techniques, build confidence, share songs, and experience the joy of traditional Irish singing. These workshops are suitable for all levels of experience.
Marianne was introduced to traditional song by her father, and developed her craft through fifteen summers at Scoil Éigse learning from Ireland’s finest traditional singers. Marianne is a multi All Britain Fleadh champion and All Ireland Fleadh medallist across Irish & English singing, lilting, and composition. She has performed widely across the UK and Ireland—from the Irish Embassy in London to festival stages and folk clubs. She regularly leads traditional singing workshops and has released two CDs, with her third album due in 2026.
